Community Support Associate Certification in Kentucky

Community Support Associate (CSA) certification in Kentucky is governed by 908 KAR 2:250, which outlines the eligibility criteria, definitions, and required training for individuals providing comprehensive community support services. These services assist clients in building independence, managing symptoms, and accessing necessary community resources.

At New Vista, participants will learn from experienced professionals while exploring core competencies such as skills training, emotional regulation support, crisis coping skills, nonclinical therapeutic interventions, and assistance with community resource utilization. These topics ensure that CSAs are equipped to help individuals with mental health disorders or cooccurring conditions function successfully in community environments.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants for CSA certification must meet all of the following as outlined by 908 KAR 2:250:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent educational documentation from a recognized entity.
  • Possess one (1) year of fulltime experience working with individuals receiving services for treatment of:
    • A mental health disorder, or
    • A co-occurring disorder (mental health plus substance use disorder, intellectual disability, or physical health condition).
  • Complete a department-led or department-approved training program within six months of hire.

Supervision Requirements

CSAs must work under the supervision of a qualified professional as defined by Kentucky regulations. Supervisors may include, but are not limited to:

  • Licensed psychologists
  • Licensed clinical social workers
  • Licensed marriage and family therapists
  • Psychiatric nurses
  • Certified alcohol and drug counselors

Note: Registration and payment must be completed by 2:00 p.m. on the Thursday prior to each session. Late applications will not be accepted.
