Volunteer from Home with New Vista

988 is the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. When you volunteer with New Vista, you'll answer the calls of Central Kentuckians and make a difference in your community.

Suicide is not inevitable for anyone. By starting the conversation, providing support and directing help to those who need it, we can prevent suicide and save lives. As a New Vista 988 Volunteer, you’ll receive extensive training and have access to 24/7 support from experienced professionals. This is a remote, unpaid opportunity.

Responsibilities

Actively listen to callers and give them time to talk to someone who cares.
Assess suicidality and caller risk using the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS).
Help the caller develop coping skills, a safety plan or if necessary, consult with or transfer calls to New Vista's 24-Hour Helpline or Mobile Crisis Team.
Follow guidelines to document each call.
Complete online trainings as assigned.

Requirements

Four or more hours of volunteer time per week and least 18 hours per month.
A commitment of at least 9 months of volunteer service time.
Must 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED.
Must be a resident of Kentucky
Must have a laptop or computer
You may also qualify for college credit through New Vista's Student Intern Program.
