Mental Health Crisis Plan

Being prepared for a mental health crisis is something that all people should plan for. This workshop walks participants through creating a safety plan that they can have for their “very worst day.” The one-hour workshop can be adapted for both adults and youth and will ask participants to identify someone they can reach out to, and ways they can distract themselves until the crisis passes.

Discover the power of proactive mental health management with our one-hour CODE RED workshop, designed to equip you with a practical and effective crisis plan. CODE RED, derived from COntact, DElay decisions, RElax, and Distract, is a straightforward approach to handling mental health crises and fostering resilience.

What is CODE RED?

CODE RED is a mental health crisis plan that empowers individuals to navigate challenging moments with clarity and calm. This workshop will guide you through each component of CODE RED, providing you with the tools and strategies needed to manage stress, anxiety, and overwhelming situations effectively.

Workshop Breakdown

  1. COntact: The first step in CODE RED is to reach out for support. Learn how to identify your support network, including friends, family, and mental health professionals, and understand the importance of seeking help when you need it. We’ll provide tips on how to initiate these crucial conversations and build a reliable support system.
  2. DElay Decisions: In times of crisis, making immediate decisions can often lead to poor outcomes. This segment of the workshop teaches you how to delay major decisions until you’re in a more stable state of mind. You’ll learn techniques to manage impulsive thoughts and actions, giving yourself the time needed to think clearly and make informed choices.
  3. RElax: Relaxation techniques are vital for managing stress and anxiety. Our workshop will introduce you to various relaxation methods, such as deep breathing exercises, mindfulness, and progressive muscle relaxation. These techniques will help you calm your mind and body, reducing the intensity of the crisis.
  4. Distract: Distraction can be a powerful tool to divert your mind from distressing thoughts and feelings. We will explore different distraction techniques, including engaging in hobbies, physical activity, and creative outlets. You’ll learn how to use these methods to shift your focus and regain control over your mental state.
