In 1965, New Vista was founded with a powerful mission: to serve Kentuckians with behavioral health needs and bring hope and healing to individuals and families across Central Kentucky. Sixty years later, that mission remains as vital and inspiring as ever. This year, New Vista proudly celebrates six decades of compassionate, high-quality care for people facing challenges related to mental health, substance use, and developmental disabilities.
What began as a small community effort has grown into a trusted, region-wide network of care. Today, New Vista serves 17 counties, offering comprehensive support to children, adults, and families. As the designated Community Mental Health Center for Central Kentucky, New Vista has built strong, lasting partnerships with schools, hospitals, local governments, and organizations that help ensure services are accessible to those who need them most.
Throughout the years, New Vista has marked many meaningful milestones that reflect both growth and impact. One of the most significant achievements is earning the designation as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). This certification highlights New Vista’s commitment to providing high-quality, integrated care that meets the unique needs of each individual. The organization has also been at the forefront of innovation, launching programs like the Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) in Lexington and expanding early childhood services to better serve families during critical stages of development.
Under the leadership of President and CEO Dee Werline, New Vista has strengthened its role as a leader in behavioral health. The organization is widely recognized for its service excellence, collaborative spirit, and unwavering commitment to reducing stigma around mental health and substance use.
As we reflect on this milestone anniversary, it’s not just about looking back, it’s about honoring the journey and the people who made it possible. For 60 years, staff, clients, volunteers, and community partners have all played a part in shaping New Vista’s mission. Their stories are the heartbeat of this organization, and their contributions deserve to be celebrated.
Remembering our history also reinforces the trust communities place in New Vista. A strong, stable presence creates a sense of reliability and care that goes beyond services, it becomes part of the fabric of the community. And looking back helps guide the way forward. The lessons, values, and dedication that built New Vista continue to inspire new ideas, new programs, and new ways to support Kentuckians.
Hope, healing, and recovery have always been at the core of New Vista’s work. As we celebrate 60 years, we remain focused on the future, expanding access, breaking down barriers, and ensuring every Kentuckian has the support they need to thrive.
We see the good ahead, and we’re just getting started.
