New Vista and LexArts Partner for Downtown Lexington Mural

Thanks to a recent partnership with LexArts, downtown Lexington will be gaining a new addition to its mural scene in the Spring of 2021. Many murals can be found in downtown Lexington, communicating the creativity, beauty and culture of the Central Kentucky community.
The new mural has been commissioned to celebrate recovery. The mural will be painted on New Vista’s Mechanic Street office building located on 201 Mechanic Street, where clients receive mental health services and substance use treatment services. Three artists will be selected to create small-scale paintings of their proposed mural idea, receiving $500 each for their works of art. The proposals given by the three artists will be evaluated; by a selection committee, with one winner selected to paint the final large mural. The winning artist will be commissioned $10,000 for the completion of the mural. The mural is intended to be positive, encouraging and oriented towards recovery.
“We are excited to see our downtown location come to life through this mural project,” says Jim Bush, Vice President of Substance Use Services. “Our clients work hard every day to achieve recovery and this mural will celebrate all of the positive changes that our clients are making happen in their lives.”
LexArts has helped grow the Lexington Mural Project, with the first of the now many murals dating back to 2008. This new mural will be a continuation of the effort to enhance the beauty of local community, while also recognizing the importance of seeking help and walking through recovery. Artists are encouraged to apply on the LexArts website at https://form.jotform.com/202374297843967.
