The holidays are a special time for family and friends to get together, but they can also be a stressful situation for many people. As the Community Mental Health Center, we want to provide the resources and tips to create joy, not stress, this holiday season. New Vista’s myStrength app offers tips to maintain good mental health during gatherings this year:
- Avoid controversial topics. Set rules ahead of time or shift the conversation as soon as you feel uncomfortable.
- Take a break. If you’re with family and begin to feel overwhelmed, go for a walk or take a nap. You can also try spending a day by yourself if you’re visiting family for an extended amount of time.
- Be kind to yourself. You know your situation best. If visiting family is too toxic, know that it’s OK not to go home for the holidays.
The myStrength app uses evidence-based practices to help with stress management, parenting, emotional support and more. New Vista provides this app free to the community by using the code “seethegood.” Learn more and download the myStrength app here.
